Well this post seems to need to go in a different direction than most.  I can’t seem to shake so many thoughts and it has become necessary for me to get a few of them out!  So, bear with me as I try to share.
Some days, (well if we are being honest it is about every day) I lay stretched out from one corner of my bed to the other, with my eyes closed; no pillow, and I listen. I listen to music, the world outside my window, my thoughts, memories and questions I hope to someday find the answer to. Most days I find myself coming back to the music. Music has a way of making me feel something, well everything. How can you not listen to real, true, music and not feel, wonder, feel, wonder and feel until you can't sit still anymore. Lately I have been captivated by music more than ever, which if you know me is pretty hard to believe. I find myself asking new questions, remembering old experiences and finding joy in so much more after I listen to my favorite music.  The cool thing about music is it is all one language.  We are all connected by this beautiful expression of life, and I can’t help but wonder what is out there that I haven’t explored?  What, and who have I not connected with?  I hope someday I can run, jump, fall, fly, pack, explore.  And who is to say I can’t?  So the journey begins.  The journey to connect and reconnect with all that surrounds me.

"The cure for anything is salt water - sweat, tears or the sea." Well now ain't that the truth! This week I got my fair share of salt water. Including the sea! My mom and I took a quick trip to California and spent some much needed time at the beach. It was perfect. I was lucky enough to spend an entire afternoon with one of my favorite people at one of my favorite places. And you better believe we both have some gnarly sun burns to prove we were in fact there!
Lately I have been thinking quite a bit about what it means to be a friend to all. On several occasions this week I have had strangers say hello, ask for advice on a purchase, give me a compliment or simply strike up a conversation about life. What a refreshing experience. I think it is all too easy to get caught up in our daily activities and forget to acknowledge all that is around us. It is a disappointment to think I may have missed out on what someone has to offer because I was too busy to say hello. How easy is it to say hello to the person in line behind you or sit by someone new in class? I'll tell you. Very easy! So why don't we do it? This week I have made the goal to be friendlier. So simple and so rewarding. Who knows what I might discover this week by stepping out of my comfort zone!

One more week! Yes that's right, after this week I will have successfully completed my first year of college. Oh how it has flown by! One thing is certain, I have learned more about myself this year than any other year thus far. I feel pretty lucky to have experienced what I have and become who I am now.  Something I have found to be of the most importance when it comes to your happiness is to keep it simple! Don't stress the small things. Fill your time with meaningful activities. Do what you have always wanted to do. Don't wait around for something to happen. Drive with the windows down. Walk in the rain. Sing your favorite song, and sing it LOUD. Laugh at your mistakes. Be silly. Spend time with people that love you and that you love back. Write letters. Help out a friend, or a stranger. Smile often. Soak up the sun. Do whatever makes you happiest. Keep it simple! We don't need all the extra clutter and distractions in life. So, get rid of it! Only keep what you need, and then go looking for the new wonderful things the world has to offer.

Happy Easter to you all! And what a beautiful day to celebrate the life, sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many of you may remember the announcement given at the First Presidency Christmas Devotional of the new Bible Videos. If you have not seen one, or all of these videos, I would suggest today is as good a day as any to check them out. They serve as a great reminder of all Christ has done and continues to do for us. I hope you take a little time today to thank your Heavenly Father for sending his Son to atone for the sins of the world so we may return to him one day.  Have a wonderful Easter!

I woke up this morning to the fire alarm going off and my daddy yelling "FIRE!" I then proceeded to roll over in my bed, stick my earphones in and fall back asleep. I think it is safe to say my dad wasn't fooling anyone with that one! I think it's also safe to say we are all very fortunate there wasn't really a fire. That could have been bad!

I hope you all had a chance to listen to General Conference this weekend and feel of the sweet spirit that accompanied it. I now have lots to work on and think about. General Conference always gives me motivation "to try a little harder to be a little better". A quote I have recently stumbled upon that has given me this same motivation is from President Hinckley. He said "You can be excellent in every way. You can be first class. There is no need for you to be a scrub. Respect yourself. Do not feel sorry for yourself. Do not dwell on unkind things others may say about you. Polish and refine whatever talents the Lord has given you. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, but with great and strong purpose in your heart. Love life and look for its opportunities." I plan on taking the challenge to "Love life and look for its opportunities" as well as to follow the words spoken at General Conference. Oh how blessed we are!
